FAQs
Who does the Clinic serve?

The Clinic serves people who have no health insurance, Medicaid, Medicare, or access to care. This includes those who work and cannot afford employer-offered health insurance benefits, those who work but whose employers do not offer health insurance, the unemployed, the homeless, those who lost Medicaid benefits due to cuts, small business owners who cannot afford health insurance, and others. Some patients require ongoing care, while others access the Clinic's services for a short time.

How do people qualify for services at the Community Clinic of Joplin?

While the Clinic does have income guidelines, they are less stringent than those imposed by the government for particular services. If care is needed, the potential patient must come to the Clinic, complete an application, review it with the social worker, and provide the following: a copy of a photo ID, proof of Missouri residency, and proof of household income (either tax returns, pay stubs, or an SEQY form from the Social Security office.)

What is the Clinic's service area?

Currently, the Clinic serves the following counties in Southwest Missouri: Jasper and Newton, also Barton, Barry, Dade, Lawrence, McDonald, and Vernon.

Does the Clinic employ any physicians?

No, the Community Clinic relies entirely on the generosity and good will of area physicians, dentists, chiropractors, specialty physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners to provide care to the patients. Supporting medical professionals including pharmacists, pharmacy techs, phlebotomists, nurses, dental hygienists and dental assistants.

What are the Clinic's hours?

The Clinic operates Monday-Wednesday and Friday from 8-4:30 (although we are closed to patients on Fridays), and Thursdays from 3 until 7 or 7:30 p.m. Clinical hours vary with the exception of Pediatrics on Wednesday mornings and Adult Clinic on Thursday afternoon.

I'm not a doctor or nurse, does the Clinic need me as a volunteer?

YES! Absolutely! Non-medical volunteers are an essential part of the team at the Clinic. These volunteers help with accounting functions, answering the telephone, record keeping, data entry, filing, fundraising, special events and marketing functions, and with general office duties. Without doctors and nurses, and volunteers, the Clinic could not operate!

How is the Clinic funded?

The Clinic receives foundation grants, business and church support, hospitals, United Way, and individual donations. The Clinic does NOT receive government funding. The Clinic's annual budget for 2006 is $321,230, or $6,177.25 a week to operate.
